High-Protein Green Smoothie

February 28, 2013

Another piece of advice nutritionist Lyn gave me, was to put an egg in my morning green smoothie for protein.

Come again?  An egg white you mean?

Nope, a whole egg.  She promised it made the concoction smooth and creamy, so I decided to give it a try

High-Protein Green Smoothie

  • Blueberries
  • Apple
  • Cucumber
  • Chocolate protein powder (or protein powder of choice)
  • 1 T Health Warrior chia seeds
  • Spinach and/or kale
  • 1 egg
  • ice

I added everything up to the leafy greens into my Vitamix (plus some water to get the blender going).  After adding some ice, I then added the egg and blended for about 10 more seconds

Taking that first sip, the taste took a bit getting used to.  It wasn’t bad at all, just a bit “meringue-y” if you know what I mean.

I ended up drinking the whole thing, so I clearly liked it.  We will see how my body and satiation respond!

**Note: You must use an organic, cage-free egg, not  a commercial egg.  The brand I used was Horizon.

Now I’m headed to one of my favorite places for a demo…Charlottesville!

Using a raw egg kind of scares me/freaks me out. But then again, I will totally eat raw cookie dough with eggs in it so I guess it is kind of like the same concept!

Yea it freaked me out too. To be honest, I didn’t like it that much! I missed my half of an avocado instead. I had to try it though!
